Rome Highlights Tour

The tour starts at the Fontana del Triton in the Piazza Barberini. This Piazza is rich in history. Piazza Barberini was named after the Barberini family for the family's estate located there. At the center of the piazza is the Triton Fountain which was sculpted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and built in 1643. Bernini incorporated heraldic symbols of Pope Urban VIII, and became well known for his unique way of incorporating water into his sculptures. This work of art has intrigued visitors for more than three-and-a-half centuries. The base of the fountain is held by 4 dolphins with a large triton kneeling on the tailfins. The triton's arms are raised while holding a conch shell to his lips. A jet of water spurts from the shell, which,in times past, was propelled much higher.

The Spanish Steps are known as one of the most majestic urban monuments of the Roman Baroque style. At the foot of the stairs stands the Barcaccia Fountain, a work by Bernini. The steps lead to the Trinita dei Monti Church.

The Trevi Fountain is our next stop on our classical Rome tour which is considered the most famous in all of Rome. This spectacular fountain stands at 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters wide! The Trevi Fountain as seen today was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762. While you are admiring this impressive masterpiece, do not forget to throw a coin into the water. It is said that if you toss a coin into the fountain then you will one day return to Rome, and just seeing the Trevi Fountain again would make your next visit well worth it!

Our last stop is Piazza Navona, which is arguably one of the most famous and beautiful squares in Rome. This square is built on Domitian's stadium, which gives it its oval shape. In this square is the Fountain of the Four Rivers. This fountain was commissioned by Pope Innocent X and designed by Bernini. The Four Rivers represented are the Danube, the Ganges River, the Nile, and the Rio della Plata. Each fountain personifies a then-known continent.

In front of the Fountain of the Four Rivers is the modest church ( by Rome standards), the Church of St. Agnes. The story of the young Agnes dying for her faith is one you will never forget. See the statue, inside, of Agnes surviving the flames due to Divine intervention. See our story on the Church of St. Agnes on our Facebook page.

Without a doubt you could have walked past many of these famous Rome landmarks and not even known it. That is especially true of one of the most interesting from a "human interest" point of view, the Church of St. Agnes. The investment in your guided Rome Highlights Tour will pay big rewards in the feeling of accomplishment you will enjoy with the new education.
