Rome Walking Tour Palazzo Della Cancelleria
Tour Description
We will begin at Ponte Sisto, a footbridge in Rome's historic district built by Pope Sixtus IV that spans the Tiber River. Close by is the Villa Farnesina, which was once owned by Agostino Chigi who was a banker to many Popes. With his position, he was granted many favors and privileges. Crossing over the bridge named after Pope Sixtus IV, which is also the same as the Sistine Chapel, we will take a stroll along Via Del Pettinari, Via Capo Di Ferro, and then to Piazza Farnese.

Piazza Farnese holds two fountains built with artifacts from the Caracalla baths and the Palazzo Farnese, which is the home of a cardinal who was elected as Pope Paul. It was designed by three different architects including Michaelangelo, Antonio da Sangallo, and Giacomo della Porta. The palace now serves as the French Embassy, and on July 14, people are invited to join in on the celebration for the French Revolution.
Past Campo Del Fiori is a massive palace called Palazzo Della Cancelleria. This palace was for Cardinal Raffaele Riario, who was the cousin of Pope Julius II. He built the palace with money won at gambling in the evenings.

Retracing our steps, we will see renaissance houses and the facade of the Church of Sant'eligio by Raphael in Via Giulia. At the end of Via Giulia, we will see the Church of San Giovanni Dei Fiorentini, which was built by the Florentine community for Pope Leo X Medici, who was the son of Lorenzo the Magnificent!
