Ancient Rome & Trevi Fountain Private Day Tour
Tour Description
This should be called the "Rome Photo Opportunity Tour". Most of the images with which we associate Rome will be our stage today.
We will begin our private tour of Rome at Capitol Square for a breathtaking view of the Roman Forum which we will later see from a closer standpoint on our way to the Colosseum.
The Roman Forum was the center of political and social activity. Public speeches and elections took place there. The Roman Forum also served as the marketplace and business district of Rome. After the Roman Empire fell, the Forum was used as a cattle pasture. Today, many fragments still remain from this massive site.
The arch of Titus and the arch of Septimius Severus still stand.
Next, your private tour of Rome will visit the great Colosseum, which was originally known as the Flavian Amphitheater. It was the largest building of its time. Emperor Vespasian initiated work on the Colosseum It was completed eight years later.
This elliptical Colosseum could hold more than 55,000 people!
Emperors used the Colosseum for Bread and Circuses. This was a place where entertainment was provided for those who lived in the city of Rome with the Emperor as well as a centralized place where free food was handed out. This place is also known for having games with wild exotic animals and gladiators.
Part of the reason of the collapse of the building was due to an earthquake. The Colosseum has been further degraded over the centuries by builders who raided the ruins for building materials.
At 13:00, we will take a lunch break at a local restaurant by the Trevi Fountain.
You may recognize the Trevi as a set for famous films such as La Dolce Vita and Roman Holidays. This spectacular fountain stands at 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters wide! The Trevi Fountain as seen today was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762.
While you are admiring this impressive masterpiece, do not forget to throw a coin into the water. It is said that if you toss a coin into the fountain then you will one day return to Rome, and just
seeing the Trevi Fountain again would make your next visit well worth it!
Your private Rome guide will then escort you to the Spanish Steps, where you will receive the tour of this famous landmark. If you would you like to shop, transportation may be extended to accommodate your wishes.
